Picture it: San Diego, CA 2024
‘Twas the night before Christmas and all through the store, each department was dripping with Yuletide decor. Sophia was nestled all snug in her bed, while visions of sugar prunes danced in her head. Before traveling to spend the Holidays with their families, Dorothy, Blanche, and Rose participate in a golden gift exchange full of hilarious surprises. Just as they get to the airport a winter storm blows in, leaving them trapped! In an unexpected Charles Dickens twist of events, the three grannies must visit their past, present, and future to save Christmas (and find Sophia)…just in time for turkey lurkey. Lucky audience members may even have a chance to make their stage debut and become the next #TokenSophia!
About the Golden Gays™
The Golden Gays™ quickly emerged as the premier Golden Girls musical experience in the country (and now internationally) with the perfect musical drag show for the whole family! They burst onto the scene in 2017- first at RuPaul’s DragCon NYC, then at the famed Rue La Rue Café, where their trivia show video went viral. What began as a flash mob has now skyrocketed to sold-out engagements all across America to London and Mexico and on the high seas. They tour their four original Golden Girls-inspired parody musicals in repertory throughout the year. You could say they travel down the road, and back again … all while singing in three-part harmony, wearing heels, backwards up a hill both ways. Oh, and where in the world is Sophia Petrillo?
#TokenSophia: I’m sure by now you’re asking yourselves “Where in the world is Sophia Petrillo”? She’s gone missing! The Golden Gays™ must travel down the road and back again to find her. GG™ has created a truly unique fan experience by inviting them to be a PART of the journey. In every show, the plot revolves around finding Sophia and by the end one or more lucky audience members is selected and crowned the next #TokenSophia! VIP ticket holders get a special Meet & Greet with the cast and have their picture taken with the wig, the glasses, and the signature handbag (perfect for social media sharing).
About the Cast:
The Golden Gays™ are highly regarded as “the best in their field”, elevating The Golden Girls drag legacy to the next level by creating one-of-a-kind original musical parody adventures – paying tribute to the show that fans know and love, as well as highlighting the talents of the cast. Most of the shows star Jason B. Schmidt as The Dorothy and feature a rotating cast of professional character actors and drag performers. Their tight three-party harmonies, innovative choreography and camp direction bring each production to the next level.

The Creative Team
The Golden Gays™ formed in 2017 and have been delighting crowds all over the U.S., in Mexico, London and in the middle of the ocean ever since. Their loyal fanbase has only grown throughout the years, and they are honored to perform as these show-stopping women.
After first appearing at RuPaul’s DragCon NYC 2017, and then at the famed Rue-La-Rue Cafe in Washington Heights, New York, The Golden Gays NYC went on to perform sold-out engagements Off-Broadway and set their sights on touring across the country. Along the way, they premiered their musical game show “The Golden Games” with Mrs. Kasha Davis and Aggy Dune, performed at Pride festivals, debuted their original holiday musical, “Thank YULE for Being a Friend,” and more – all for their biggest supporters, which they call the #FriendsOfClayton. “It’s like a drag barbershop trio, Pitch Perfect, and the Hallmark Channel got together to put on a show!”
Originally created by Andy Crosten, Gerry Mastrolia, Jason B. Schmidt and Mason Griffin, the Golden Gays NYC set out to create Golden Girls musicals they would want to see on the stage!
