Directed by Stephen Brotebeck
REHEARSALS:
September 24 – October 20, 2024
PERFORMANCES:
October 24 – November 17, 2024
OPENING NIGHT:
November 2, 2024
It’s 1965 in Greenwich Village. In an illegal backroom cabaret called The Never Get, lovers Trevor and Arthur perform an act that unabashedly celebrates gay romance for like-minded audiences. As they croon their way toward the end of a revolutionary decade, facing the conflicting promises of professional success and personal liberation—will their relationship survive?
ROLES:
TREVOR: A dapper and talented cabaret singer. Controlled, precise, charismatic. Has the audience in the palm of his hand. Baritenor, not pop. Early to Mid 30’s, male identifying. Bb2 – B4 with strong falsetto in that higher range.
THE PIANIST: Trevor’s accompanist and stand-in for Arthur. Strong actor and jazz piano player. He sings but, because Arthur’s a writer, he doesn’t have to be great at it. Early to Mid 30’s, male identifying.
OLDER TREVOR: Trevor as the person he actually was at the age he died (though not necessarily who he was on his deathbed). If his voice isn’t as strong as Trevor’s, if he isn’t quite as sharp a performer, he is still captivating in his own way. Early 40’s to Mid 50’s, male identifying.

SHANE HORNE: A lieutenant in the Navy. A sexual empath, God’s gift to lady parts of all shapes, colors and vintages. Despite her talents, she is unable to find pleasure herself. Late 20’s to late 30’s, female identifying.
JESS O’NOPE: A wise but repressed Navy psychiatrist who hates her job. Might be past her prime but wants to finally say yes to Life. She becomes an unwilling prophet with an epic quest to save humanity. Mid 30’s to early 40’s, female identifying.
MRS. SAPH MEMNON: An unwilling wife, married to Willy for status and money. Now trapped on an island with her husband and in-laws, she craves independence and pleasure. 30’s, female identifying.
PVT. WILLIE MEMNON: Married to Sapph. Sweet, kind, masculinely woke, but with a jealous streak. Has lived a privileged yet unremarkable life. Anxious to prove himself to his father, The General. Mid 30’s to early 40’s, male identifying.
GEN.MEMNON: A hot-headed, war-starved General in the Navy. A blustery blowhard who’s a child on the inside. Late 40’s to Mid 60’s, male identifying.
GENERAL’S WIFE: A sex-starved wife. Dislikes her husband, The General. Late 40’s to Mid 60’s, female identifying.

The son. The mother. The husband. Can they ever really know each other—or will there always be a chasm between them? Or will their personal bonds strengthen in the face of adversity?
